Carlisle

Class 5 4-6-0 45321 runs briskly into Carlisle with the summer Saturday 1.20pm London to Glasgow express. Even as late as August 1967, this was surprisingly still scheduled for steam haulage between Crewe and Carlisle, although the motive power would normally have been a Kingmoor Britannia. The train had been reported as twenty minutes late out of Preston, but the Black Five had kept to schedule on the run north over Shap and was still only twenty minutes down.
