Bowling Upper Basin

The Cumbrae ferry 'Ashton' entering the upper lock at Bowling, with a special charter organised by the Glasgow University Railway Society. I believe the sailing covered the section of the Forth & Clyde canal west of Kirkintilloch and, as far as I know, it was the last occasion on which a passenger vessel sailed on the canal before its closure at the end of 1962. The canal of course eventually reopened in 2001.
