Silloth Marshall Dock

The tidal Marshall Dock at Silloth, viewed from the sea wall, with the New Dock beyond. Ships in the New Dock stay afloat thanks to the lock gates. Railway tracks ran along the land to the left and also on the right hand side of the dock. Carr's flour mills were big users of the railway but, although still active in the town, transferred to road haulage in the early 1960s and the branch closed completely in 1964.
