Werrington Junction

The start of the new Werrington dive-under, three miles north of Peterborough, seen from passing UK Railtours' excursion from Kings Cross to Shrewsbury, about to diverge left towards Leicester on the morning of Saturday, 25th September 2021. The new line will enable trains from Peterborough going on via the ex-GN/GE Joint Line towards Spalding without conflicting with main line trains on the ECML. Odd when you think that at one time the Peterborough to Spalding line was closed to passenger traffic but later reopened. Spalding to Boston closed at the same time in 1970 but has not been reopened. Passengers for Skegness now usually have to detour up to Grantham and change there.
