Telford Central

Exterior of Telford Central, on the Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton line, seen here on the evening of Saturday, 25th September 2021. The new town of Dawley was begun in the 1960s and was later renamed in honour of the engineer Thomas Telford. As the new town grew, it had to rely on two existing stations on the line, Oakengates and Wellington (indeed Wellington was known as Wellington Telford West for a time). Telford itself had to wait until this new station was opened on 12th May 1986, with platforms long enough to accommodate Inter-City trains.
