Irlams o' th' Height

Irlams o' th' Height station only lasted from 1901 to 1956, as it was well away from the village centre, although it was close to Agecroft engine shed. The surviving Atherton lines still divide around the site of the island platform, clearly visible from passing trains. The bricked up station entrance can still be seen between the two bridges in this July 2021 image. When two additional freight lines were added and the line quadrupled the new lines ran at a higher level through Irlams, as shown by the far abutment, but they came together properly before Pendlebury, and continued all the way to Dobbs Brow Junction until removal in 1968.
