Kinlochleven Smelter Pier

The British Aluminium Co. (or North British Aluminium Co.) built the Kinlochleven Alumimium Works between 1905 and 1909, using narrow gauge railways to aid in the construction of the factory, power station, Blackwater Dam and the connecting water pipes. After opening, a 3 foot gauge tramway connected the works to piers on Loch Leven for the import and export of materials. This was double track with overhead catenary. It closed in 1960 with the works following forty years later. This is the south pier on Loch Leven, partially demolished, in June 2021. The isolated section carried rail mounted travelling cranes.
