Askam Pier

Askam Pier is a long promontory, made of tipped slag from the nearby Askam Iron Works. On a map of 1898 it did not exist but by 1911 it was the size it is today with a railway track running down either side. This 2021 view towards Millom across the Duddon Estuary, from the railway bridge joining the pier to the coastline, with the site of the Iron Works, now a housing development, immediately behind the camera.
