Llanymynech

Once upon a time there was an extensive railway system around the Llanymynech Quarry and Limekilns. From the quarry there was a double track narrow gauge wagon way with a rope hauled incline. Loaded trucks came down from the quarry and hauled the empties back up. Although the adjacent canal had been used to bring in coal and take out the processed lime, the Llanfyllin branch was constructed and the railway started to be used for the traffic. Around the site today there are short lengths of both narrow and standard gauge track showing where some of the tracks were.
