Ruislip

Preserved ex-GWR class 4575 no. 5521, dating from 1927, repainted in London Transport red livery and renumbered L.150 to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the London Underground, seen here passing Ruislip station during one of several trips on this day from Harrow-on-the-Hill to Uxbridge, on Sunday, 8th December 2013. This station was originally the only intermediate station on the Harrow & Uxbridge Railway, an offshoot of the Metropolitan, opened on 4th July 1904 and remains substantially as constructed. Several halts opened in 1906 and which were all upgraded to stations and rebuilt in the 1930s to the designs of Dr. Charles Holden (1875-1960), the Underground's Chief Architect between the two World Wars. (See my photo of this locomotive passing Ickenham station on the same day for fuller details.)
