Carr Lane

Carr Lane Halt was only opened in 1923, when the LMS tried to wring a little more revenue out of its smallest constituent company by opening some additional railmotor stops. The small station, sleeper platform and a shelter, was on the right hand side immediately beyond the level crossing gate posts seen in this view towards Knott End on 12th July 2020. It was much closer to Pilling village centre than Pilling station itself. The Knott End line is the subject of an excellent in-depth study on the Disused Stations website. I had not realised that, in between normal services of five return trips to Garstang, the LMS ran a shuttle from Knott End to Pilling to cater for trippers crossing from Fleetwood so that they could visit Pilling village. All to no avail and the line closed to passengers in 1930, with the last freight from Knott End passing through here twenty years later.
