Marley Hill Shed

View over Marley Hill engine shed, built in 1854 for the Pontop & Jarrow Railway and closed in 1970. This is now the centre of operations for the Tanfield Railway, the oldest locomotive shed in the world still used for its original purpose. In the left background are Hudswell Clark 0-6-0T NCB No.38 (1823 of 1949) and Marley Hill Colliery, closed in 1983.
