Wenford Dries

Until 2002, china clay dries were in operation at Wenford, receiving clay slurry by pipeline from Stannon pit on Bodmin Moor for drying and then export. The dried clay was despatched by rail (latterly hauled by a Class 08 via Dunmere junction, Boscarne junction and Bodmin General station) until the service was withdrawn in October 1983. This photo of the previously rail-served dries and the associated level crossing was taken in June 1984 after the railway had been abandoned in favour of road haulage.
