Hither Green

East side exterior of Hither Green station in south-east London, on the main line to Tonbridge and Hastings and the junction for the Sidcup Loop, seen here on 11th December 2010. The Tonbridge line near here was the scene of an horrendous train crash in November 1967, resulting in fatalities. The late Robin Gibb, one of the singing Gibb brothers who formed that great pop group The Bee Gees in the 1960s and became even more famous in the 70s following the success of the film 'Saturday Night Fever', was on board that train but survived. He vowed he would never go on a train again after that - and he never did.
