Stoke Newington

317729 with a London Overground service to Liverpool Street calling at Stoke Newington station, serving the north London suburb where I was born, looking south on 12th August 2019. This station opened on 27th May 1872 as the temporary terminus of the GER's 'cut-off' route to Lower Edmonton (now Edmonton Green), to which it was completed on 22nd July 1872 and where a connection was made with the original 1849 Eastern Counties line from Angel Road to Enfield Town. The new route shortened the journey to London for Enfield residents but a shuttle service on the original line survived between Angel Road and the low level station at Lower Edmonton, as the area was then called, until 1939.
