Garroch Viaduct

KEEP OUT - DANGEROUS STRUCTURE. So reads the BRB(R) warning sign attached to the fenced off piers of Garroch Viaduct, located two miles west of Dumfries station on the former Port Road to Stranraer. While most of the route closed in 1965 the viaduct continued in use for a further 29 years as part of a short stub from Dumfries serving the ICI plant at Cargenbridge, off to the right (now Cargenbridge Business Park). The steps on the left lead up to the old trackbed, now part of the Maxwellton Railway Path. See image 27186
