Woodmuir Siding

Woodmuir Road, Breich. At one time crossed by the Caledonian Railway's Woodmuir branch and as can be seen, the track is still in situ at the level crossing. (The crossing was the limit of Caley ownership.) Looking west, the branch extended to serve quarries with a double reversal to reach what appears from the OS to have been the original Woodmuir Colliery (later known as Rashiehill Colliery). The later mine, some of whose buildings still survive, was on the east side nearer Woodmuir Junction. Track beyond this level crossing was gone by 1905 according to the OS although still connected on the east side perhaps retained as headshunt for the newer Woodmuir Colliery until it closed in 1963.
