Carnforth

A scene at the west end of Carnforth depot in the mid 1980s. This was the period when Sir William McAlpine had a stake in Steamtown and based his A3 Pacific 4472 Flying Scotsman there. The A3's tender is just encroaching into the shot of resident Class 03 0-6-0DM D2381. The 03 is still based at Carnforth, in the ownership of West Coast Railways, but is presently (2019) stored rather than operational. The area where the image was taken is now used for stabling West Coast's fleet of Class 37, 47 and 57 diesels.
