Stalybridge Tunnel

Wakefield Road crosses over the Huddersfield Line tunnel, just east of Stalybridge Station, as it first heads east and then turns north north east towards Mossley. Some 50m inside the curve of the road, amongst housing, a large air shaft for the tunnel sits atop a small mound - like a castle overlooking a surrounding plain - as seen in this view looking north east.
