High Level Bridge

There would undoubtedly be an outcry today if it was suggested that a new transport network was driven through the city walls which can be seen was the case here when the High Level Bridge was constructed in 1849. The brick building to the right is the Bridge Hotel which holds a place in contemporary railway history as the venue for the inaugural meeting of the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group in October 1966.
