Edinburgh Waverley

The Waverley 'sub' island platforms (8 & 9) seen looking east through a glass panel from the station walkway on 21 December 2017. Standing at platform 9 (W) is ScotRail EMU 334025 awaiting its departure time with the 1107 to Milngavie. The covered stairway on the left, built onto the station's south wall, was constructed in 2006 to provide access to the new through platform 10, which runs along the other side of the wall see image 13170. Note how the line and platform are forced to curve round the massive pier supporting the city's North Bridge, thus providing the space required to construct the new stairway and lift.
