York

The headboard on the loco shows that this is no ordinary service train. Originally the name was given to a LMSR service from Inverness to Wick in the 1930s. More recently the charter train which ran from Inverness to Kyle, Wick and Thurso also carried this name. However the train in the photo was a British Rail Inter-city Charter Unit landcruiser. In addition to 7 sleeper coaches it had 9 Mk 1 1st Class day coaches see image 61992 hauled by 47662.
