Alloa Marshalling Yard

This is a westward view from the east end of the Alloa “new” marshalling yard in November 1985. Most of the yard had fallen into disuse except for a run around loop needed for the Menstrie molasses tanks. The points shown were the eastern limit of travel for the running round locomotive (Class 27 at the time) and only the second from right switch was actually used. Behind the camera, a piece of timber had been wired in place across the track (the former up arrival line to the yard) to prevent the engine straying on to line that had been the responsibility of the previously abandoned Alloa West box.
