Baxenden

Half way up the 1:38 from Accrington to Baxenden was a signal box, known as Baxenden Shoe Mill, and a five arch viaduct. The signal box closed in 1962, four years before the line itself. The viaduct lasted until demolition in 1981 but eleven years later a new bridge, at a much lower level, was installed and the Hyndburn Greenway now forms a bridleway along the trackbed all the way to Baxenden. Very few railway artefacts remain but this signal base is still alongside the line opposite the site of the box. 16th October 2017.
