Masham

Looking south across the A6108 in the summer of 2011 towards the site of the former Masham station and goods yard, now in use as a camping and caravan park. The crossing gates were installed in 1905 when a siding was extended across the road to serve a contractor's transhipment yard with 2ft gauge tramway used in the construction of two nearby reservoirs. Masham station saw its last passenger in January 1931, with the line from Melmerby Junction closing completely in 1963. See image 34893
