Barnstaple Town

The former Barnstaple Town station was connected to Barnstaple Junction station via this sharply curved bridge over the River Taw. The view is from the Barnstaple Town side showing the end of the line from the junction as it was on 8th September 1976. The bridge fell into disuse in 1970 when the passenger service to Ilfracombe was withdrawn, but the last train ran over it in 1975. To the disappointment of local anglers, it was finally demolished in 1977.
