Ramsbottom

Signalman Peter Bendall winds the wheel in Ramsbottom signal box to close the level crossing gates to road traffic on 3rd August 2016. Peter believes these are the only wheel operated gates on a UK heritage railway so they are a cherished asset, if a little heavy to work. The large windows give excellent views of the railway and also the road on both sides of the crossing. Image taken with kind permission of the East Lancashire Railway during a supervised visit.
