Edinburgh Waverley

The mystery of the phantom Platforms 5 and 6 (image 56376) is solved thanks to the help of Michael Laing and Colin McDonald. The rump bays between Platforms 4 and 7, currently used for stabling, are to be extended to accommodate lengthened East Coast configurations. The will need to be about quadrupled in length, so it will surely be necessary to extend out (eastwards) as well as towards me or the buffers will be inside the booking hall. Behind the buffers at the moment is the station waste compactor, which on a warm day like 06/09/2016 makes its presence felt.
