Longport
BR Class 273/2 Regional or North of London Eurostar on the WCML (Stoke branch). This was the intended route for these trains to take to and from Manchester to the Continent but the service never started. Some of these units were later used by GNER for ECML (White Rose) services see image 4913. The photographer was lucky enough to be in the right place at the trackside when this train appeared on a test run: at that time London & Continental Railways (Eurostar(UK)) still had plans to run the international service.
