Layton

Blackpool Council announced in June 2016 that Crossley's Bridge, at the east end of Layton station, is to be demolished and replaced in a £6.1m scheme due to extensive corrosion. As the bridge needed to be modified for electrification Network Rail are contributing to the cost. The bridge was built in 1931 and the road over it will close after the 2016 illuminations for several months. It is similar in style to two other bridges on the Blackpool South line at Squires Gate and Harrowside. A pair of Pacers rattle through on a Hazel Grove to Blackpool North service on 4th June 2016.
