Bridgend Junction

View south at Bridgend Junction in 1997 seen from the site of the signalbox. Here the M&K (right) met the North British's 1895 connection to the E&G at Waterside Junction (left). The box also served Auchengeich Colliery (1909-1965) to the south. Opening of this box and junction led to the closure of Garngaber Low Junction (at Muckcroft LC) where the single track lines from Middlemuir Junction and Garngaber High Junction met after running parallel for a considerable distance - the closure of Garngaber Low leading to an increase in that distance. Lines to Middlemuir and Waterside closed in 1959 leaving the original M&K the only line open until its closure in 1965. Pumping operations continued at Auchengeich until 1968 when Wester Auchengeich Colliery (nearby and served by Cadder Yard) closed.
