Gass Water Branch Junction

NCB No. 1 (Andrew Barclay 2368 of 1955) builds up a head of steam at Cronberry exchange sidings on the old Gasswater branch with empty coal wagons for Cairnhill Mine. The BR/NCB interchange was 1/4 mile east of Cronberry Station and would have been controlled from Cronberry Junction 'box (closed 1966). Prior to that access was controlled by Gass Water Branch Junction signalbox (opened 1881, closed 1906). Before the mainline was doubled access was via two reversals which must have been to protect the mainline from the steeply graded branch.
