Faskine Basin

Faskine, on the Monkland Canal, was the opposite extremity of the line from Kirkintilloch. The canal can be seen to the right. This no doubt unrelated rail is embedded in the ground on the north bank. There was a colliery here and colliery lines continued north to Cairnhill, realigned as various pits opened and closed. Faskine is where Scotland's first iron boat 'Vulcan' was launched.
