Bowling Swing Bridge

Bowling Swing Bridge with its impressive signal box on a gantry viewed from the south side. This looks like a construction recording photograph of 1896 or thereabouts (note the group standing on the bridge to the left). Also note - the bridge is swung open! Closing the canal to traffic to allow the construction of the bridge would not be difficult for the Caledonian who owned both the canal and the railway under construction. This photograph has been passed down through a family. The bridge still exists, albeit out of use and closed permanently. The gantry and box have been removed. See image 35889
