Portbou
Portbou lies between two hills with tunnels to the north and south, with the northerly one crossing the border into France. The upper image shows the main tunnel south for the RENFE broad gauge tracks to Figueres, Girona and Barcelona. The lower image shows the opposite side of the large south end station building, beyond which there is a smaller tunnel for the SNCF standard gauge tracks from France serving the external platform at the station See image 53237. This may be a dead end tunnel to provide a headshunt for run round purposes beyond the restricted space around the station.
