Stratford Shed

The unique K5 2-6-0 no 61863 photographed in the shed yard at Stratford, thought to have been taken around the time of its withdrawal in 1960. Built at Darlington in 1925, originally as one of 193 Gresley K3s, this example was rebuilt by Thompson at Doncaster in 1945 with a new type of boiler and 2 (rather than 3) cylinders, with the rebuilt locomotive being reclassified K5. The solitary example was withdrawn from Stratford in early June 1960 and cut up at Doncaster by the end of that month.
