Appleby

At about 13:35 on 20 August 2015 Jubilee No. 45699 accelerates away from the water stop at Appleby while working the northbound Dalesman. Galatea will shortly pass under the highly skewed masonry arch bridge at Brown Bank, which now carries no more than an unsurfaced farm track over the line. The track was at one time part of the Penrith to Brough Roman road and one presumes must have retained some importance into more recent times to justify such an expensive form of bridge construction.
