Arniston Colliery Engine Pit

A narrow gauge line inside one of the disused buildings at Arniston in 2002. This site started with the Newbyres Pit, served by the Arniston Branch of the Marquis of Lothian's Waggonway. This was replaced by the Arniston Engine Pit and later by the Emily Pit (to the south) and the Gore Pit (beside the Waverley Route). Access to the system was by reversal at Gorebridge whereas the old waggonway approach was on the east side of the A7. The area is being progressively re-developed with housing.
