Ladhope Tunnel

Old undated photograph looking north west through Ladhope Tunnel (which in reality is a wide bridge to accommodate a very skew crossing under the A7 road). Note the connection to a siding which once existed on Ladhope Vale in Galashiels. Early 20th century OS maps show It serving a loading dock, although its precise purpose is not obvious. Also of interest is the shanty building above the tunnel mouth - no doubt it housed workshops of some sort. The bridge itself was to see many changes in the years ahead see image 22401.
