Newlay Cutting

LNER Society Railtours The South Yorkshireman tour of 29th April 1978 forges through Newlay cutting on the west side of Leeds. The special, which originated at London Euston, was powered by Black 5s 45407 and 44932 between York and Carnforth. The magnificent brick arch with squared stone spandrels and wingwalls clears the formerly four-track Midland main line in one leap but carries no more than the access track into the former Rodley sewage works (now a nature reserve).
