Spring Vale
The return leg of the 15 Guinea Special from Carlisle to Manchester was hauled by a pair of Black 5s. In 1968 this had been 44781 and 44871 but on 11 August 2013 45231 and 44932 did the honours. The train is running ahead of time and digging into the climb from a stop at Darwen on the journey south towards Sough tunnel. Part of the building on the left is the remains of Spring Vale station see image 33698.
