Ipswich Docks

A rake of container flats hauled by 08661 holds up road traffic as it emerges from Ipswich Lower Yard and heads off through the docks complex to collect a load from Cliff Quay. It is a very cold morning in December 1985. Despite an upgrading of the dock line and lower yard facilities in the early 1980s to better handle container traffic, Felixstowe stubbornly held on to its virtual monopoly of this business. The lower yard and docks line finally succumbed to permanent Network Change (a euphemism similar to reshaping) in 2009 after a long period of inactivity.
