Kilmaurs

On 4th February 1898 the Ayr-Glasgow 'Boat Goods' and the Kilmarnock-Ayr 'Mail' collided at Barassie with 7 fatalities. A James Stirling 0-6-0, No. 49, on the Goods was completely destroyed and the Mail engine, No.153, a Hugh Smellie 4-4-0, was damaged beyond repair. This is the grave of the unfortunate John Tennant, one of the dead, in Kilmaurs Churchyard.
