Heighington

Scene at Heighington on 19 June 2013. A train has just departed for Bishop Auckland, with another about to leave for Darlington. Meanwhile a small queue of pedestrians and a large queue of road traffic has built up at the level crossing. Heighington was busy during WWII, sharing with Aycliffe the flow of thousands of workers to the nearby ROD munitions factories. Now enjoying a new lease of life thanks to the expanding industrial estates of what became Newton Aycliffe.
