Darlington Shed

A pair of the large A8 Pacific tanks, nos 69854 and 69858, standing in the sidings alongside Darlington shed. Built at Darlington Works as H1 4-4-4Ts in 1913 all 45 of the class were rebuilt as Pacifics during the 1930s. The photograph is thought to have been taken in May 1960, the month both locomotives were withdrawn from 52G Sunderland and moved to Darlington, where they are thought to be awaiting transfer to the works scrapyard.
