Nossen

Towards the end of steam, original class 50s had become something of a rarity in East Germany, and one fitted with Wagner smoke deflectors (as opposed to the Witte type familiar in the UK on the A3s) was rarer still. No. 50 1002, shedded at Nossen, therefore had something of a celebrity status, even if the duties on which it was employed were rather modest. Just after 15.30 on a Saturday afternoon in August 1979 it is seen leaving Nossen on a local freight for Riesa.
