Staveley

Just to the south of Staveley station is this well known level crossing. In earlier times the line was double track, the crossing manually controlled and the road was the main route from Kendal to Windermere. With the line singled, the crossing automated and the village bypassed the scene has changed but the railway cottage is still occupied as 185105 passes on its way to Oxenholme and Manchester Airport on a murky November afternoon.
