Feltham

One of the powerful Urie class H16 4-6-2 tanks photographed on Feltham shed in October 1959. Known as 'Green tanks', five were built in the early 1920s specifically to handle heavy cross-London interchange freight traffic emanating from Feltham marshalling yard. Opened in 1921, Feltham was the busiest yard in Britain at that time. All 5 of the H16s were withdrawn during 1962 and Feltham yard itself finally closed in January 1969.
