Rose Grove

Brush Type 4 Co-Co 1842 stabled by Rose Grove East box on a summer evening in 1970. There were large marshalling yards in front of and behind the box but the staple coal traffic seen here was declining and they closed soon after this picture was taken. Rose Grove East, West and nearby Gannow Jcn boxes were all closed when Preston powerbox opened in 1972. 1842 later became 47192 and is now preserved at Crewe Heritage Centre. See image 27219 for a view in the opposite direction on the same day.
