Michaelstein

DB diesel-hydraulic B-B No. 218435 has just arrived, leading its train, at Michaelstein, a reversing station on the electrified Rübelandbahn in the Harz area of eastern Germany. From here it will propel the two coaches comprising the 14.06 departure from Halberstadt towards Rübeland and Elbingerode, its destination. The grades both in and out of Michaelstein are as steep as 1 in 16.6 and this section of the line was once rack fitted on the Abt system - this was dispensed with following the introduction of powerful 2-10-2T locos in 1920.
